COME LIE WITH ME

unscripted comedy from Active Voice Productions

Inspired by the seventies series Liars’ Club and the long-running British series, Would I Lie To You?, this new game of deceit and deception, Come Lie With Me pits comics, improviseurs and hapless celebrities and authors, against one another for meaningless points and bragging rightsWith each player offering an absurd story about his or her life, only one of which is true, all the players cross-interview to determine which one of them speaks the truth – or rather, to disprove each other’s story so as to make their own, the only obvious choice.

Improvising the details of their stories under the pressure of interrogation, the fast and the funniest must convince their quick and clever colleagues of their veracity – or play the part of the deceiver so well as to belie their own truths.

SHORT-FORM ROUNDS:

WORDPLAY! let our guests and regulars play about with bullshit vocabulary. A cleverly re-designed take on the old parlor game Dictionary which, anyone who knows me will be unsurprised to learn, I played from five years of age, winning my first point at age 12. Given an unfamiliar word, each of the players provides a made-up definition. These are all read out with the true definition mixed in and players must each guess which one it is, earning points for correct guesses and for each guess garnered by their own.

SERVE THE SENTENCE! in which each player is asked to write a sentence that people might think comes from a chosen book (from classics to best sellers, pulp titles to instruction manuals). All of those PLUS an actual sentence from the bookwill be read aloud to the group. Players must each guess which one is real, earning points for correct guesses and for each guess garnered by their own sentence.
